I am a natural light photographer who loves to capture the beauty of my everyday and the connections and love in relationships. I especially love photographing children because they seem to live in their own magical worlds. Through photographing them I hope to be allowed into their world, if only for a moment

I began my photography journey when I was about twelve. My friends and I would take the camera out in the neighborhood and practice taking model shots of each other. I took a photography class for the first time in middle school, then more classes in high school and then received my Bachelor of Art with emphasis in Photography in 2007. Most of the classes I have taken were focused on black and white film photography. We learned how to load our own film on cartridges in the dark, unload them in the dark, develop the film, and then make the prints in the darkroom. I spent a LOT of time in that college darkroom. Because of my background  I am drawn to images in black and white because of the way it emphasizes such rich contrast and texture. Black and white images will always say ‘timeless’ to me. However, I also love a beautiful color image full of airy and buttery light.

My husband gave me my first DSLR to finish my degree with as I began taking digital classes. I haven’t done film in a while now, because of the ease of digital. But the true look of film grain will always hold a place in my heart. For as long as I’ve been doing this I would think I’d be better at it by now. I look at other photographers who have learned what’s taken me many years, in only a couple of years, without going to college for it, and are already insanely more talented than me. But here I am, plugging along, with still lots to learn, only the passion in my heart, knowing the joy that photography brings me. I am a very visual person and I love finding the beauty around me, in almost every situation I see a photo in my mind that should be taken. If I could capture everything I see all day I would be happy, but someone’s gotta take care of the kids. 🙂

Speaking of which, I have two very energetic boys, 5 and 3. They are my two miracles and have both come to me in miraculous ways. My first through medical intervention and my second through adoption. How sweet their smiles are as they brighten my world. You will be seeing more of them, as they are my muses.

Thank you for being here to check out my work!
